Fishing & Cooking Guide
Entropia Universeโs newest profession system โ catch fish, cook meals, and earn PED through an entirely new gameplay loop introduced in April 2026.
Overview
The Fishing & Cooking systems were introduced in the April 2026 content update (Version 19.6.0), making them the biggest new gameplay addition to Entropia Universe in years. These systems add an entirely new profession path โ one that doesnโt require weapons, armor, or mining tools โ making it particularly attractive for new and budget-conscious players.
| System | What It Does | PED Investment | Profit Potential |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fishing | Catch fish from oceans, rivers, lakes | Low (free starter rod available) | โ โ โ โ โ (currently strong MU) |
| Cooking | Cook fish + ingredients into buff meals | Low-Medium | โ โ โ โโ (growing demand) |
[!TIP] Fishing is currently one of the best early-game PED-earning activities โ rivaling sweating in accessibility but often providing better returns due to current market markup on fish and cooked meals. If youโre a new player reading this in 2026, start fishing immediately.
Fishing System
Getting Started
Step 1: Get a rod
- Free option: Complete the fishing starter mission on Setesh (the new starter moon) to receive a free bait-fishing rod
- Craft option: Craft a rod using blueprints found at fishing terminals
- Buy option: Purchase a rod from the auction house
Step 2: Get Spool Cells (ammo)
- Fishing requires Spool Cells as โammunitionโ โ theyโre consumed with each cast
- How to get them:
- Craft from blueprints found at fishing terminals
- Refine bait fish together with universal ammo
- Buy from other players on the auction
Step 3: Find water
- Fishing is available on: Calypso, Next Island, ROCKtropia, ARIS, and Setesh
- Valid locations: seas, rivers, lakes, and deep ocean areas
- Different biomes and water types yield different fish species
Step 4: Cast and catch
- Equip your rod, stand near water, and cast
- Complete the fishing minigame to land your catch
Fishing Mechanics
Rod Types and Minigames
| Rod Type | Minigame Style | Where to Get | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bait Fishing Rod | Casting minigame | Free from Setesh mission | Best starter option |
| Angling Rod | Angling minigame | Crafted/auction | More control over catch |
| Fly Fishing Rod | Precision minigame | Crafted/auction | Skill-dependent |
| Deep Ocean Rod | Deep ocean minigame | Crafted/auction | Requires boat/deep water access |
Rod Attachments
Customize your rod with four attachment slots:
| Attachment | Effect | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Reel | Reeling speed | Faster reel = easier minigame completion |
| Blank | Rod strength | Affects maximum fish size you can land |
| Line | Flexibility/range | Longer line = access to deeper fish |
| Lure | Catch attraction | Different lures attract different species |
What Affects Your Catch
- Biome โ Different water environments hold different fish species
- Time of day โ Some fish are more active at certain in-game times
- Depth โ Deeper water = rarer species (requires appropriate rod)
- Equipment โ Better attachments improve catch quality and success rate
- Skill level โ Higher fishing skills unlock more species and improve efficiency
Fishing Codex
A new Fishing Codex has been added alongside the fishing system:
- Every fish species you catch is tracked in the Codex
- Earn skill rewards as you hit rank milestones (just like creature Codex)
- Prioritize Stamina and universal skills in reward selection (same strategy as hunting Codex)
Where to Fish
Best Starter Locations
| Planet | Location | Fish Quality | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calypso | Port Atlantis pier/coast | Good | Closest to main auction; NPC Marine Biologist Jolene offers daily missions |
| Setesh | Various water bodies | Good | Get your free rod here first |
| Next Island | Coastal areas | Good | Beautiful scenery while fishing |
| ROCKtropia | Waterways | Moderate | Less competition |
| ARIS | Limited water areas | Moderate | Toxic environment; unique species possible |
[!NOTE] Port Atlantis on Calypso has become the central hub for fishing and cooking. NPC Marine Biologist Jolene was added here with daily fishing missions as of patch 19.6.1.
Cooking System
How Cooking Works
Cooking transforms fish and other ingredients into consumable buff meals โ items that provide temporary stat bonuses when eaten.
Step 1: Get a cooking tool
- Campfire โ For basic recipes (can be placed in the world)
- Stove โ For advanced recipes (found at certain locations or player-owned)
Step 2: Learn recipes
- Starter recipes โ Available at fishing terminals
- Advanced recipes โ Discovered through experimentation (combine different ingredients)
- 100+ recipes exist โ many undiscovered, encouraging community collaboration
Step 3: Gather ingredients
- Fish from fishing (primary ingredient source)
- Materials from mining, hunting, and gardening
- Some ingredients are recipe-specific
Step 4: Cook and consume or sell
- Craft meals at campfires/stoves
- Use them yourself for temporary buffs, or sell to other players
Buff Types
Cooked meals provide temporary bonuses similar to โbuff pillsโ:
| Buff Type | Effect | Value to Players |
|---|---|---|
| Critical Chance | Increased crit rate | โ โ โ โ โ (hunters love this) |
| Damage Boost | Increased damage output | โ โ โ โ โ |
| Run Speed | Faster movement | โ โ โ โ โ |
| Max HP | Increased health points | โ โ โ โ โ |
| Regeneration | Passive HP recovery | โ โ โ โโ |
| Life Steal | Heal on damage dealt | โ โ โ โโ |
[!IMPORTANT] Cooked buff meals are consumable and in constant demand. Players who hunt high-level mobs will buy damage and crit buffs regularly. This creates a sustainable market for fishers/cooks โ unlike one-time crafting where the item lasts forever, meals get consumed and need replacing.
Cooking Tips
- Start with basic recipes โ Learn the mechanics before investing in rare ingredients
- Track your recipes โ Keep notes on what ingredient combinations produce which meals
- Focus on high-demand buffs โ Damage and crit chance buffs sell fastest
- Sell on Calypso โ Port Atlantis has the most buyer traffic
- Bulk cook โ Cooking in batches is more time-efficient

Economy & Profitability
Why Fishing Is Currently Profitable
- New system = high demand โ Players are buying fish and meals to build cooking skills, experiment with recipes, and use buffs
- Consumable demand โ Unlike equipment, meals are consumed and must be replaced constantly
- Low barrier to entry โ Free starter rod + minimal ammo cost = low investment
- Markup on raw fish โ Many fish species carry 120-200%+ markup right now
- Markup on cooked meals โ Buff meals carry even higher markup due to processing
Cost Structure
| Cost Component | Approximate PED | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Starter rod | Free (Setesh mission) | No initial cost |
| Spool Cells (ammo) | ~0.01-0.05 PED/cast | Very cheap per cast |
| Rod decay | ~0.01-0.03 PED/cast | Minimal decay |
| Total cost per cast | ~0.02-0.08 PED | Extremely low per-action cost |
Expected Returns
[!WARNING] Market prices for fish and meals will fluctuate as the system matures and more players enter the market. The current high markups (2026) may decrease over time as supply increases. However, the consumable nature of cooked meals provides a floor for demand.
| Activity | Estimated Return Rate | Investment Level |
|---|---|---|
| Bait fishing (starter) | 95-110% TT return + markup | Very Low |
| Skilled fishing | 90-105% TT + higher markup | Low-Medium |
| Cooking + selling meals | Varies; often net positive with markup | Medium |
Practical Tips
- Start on Setesh โ Get the free rod and learn mechanics in a low-stakes environment
- Visit Port Atlantis โ Talk to Marine Biologist Jolene for daily fishing missions (added in patch 19.6.1)
- Track what you catch โ Some fish are worth significantly more than others; learn which biomes produce the best catches
- Experiment with cooking โ Undiscovered recipes still exist. Be the first to find a high-value buff recipe
- Sell raw fish if cooking is too complex โ Even uncooked fish sells well on the current market
- Fish while waiting โ Fishing is perfect โdowntimeโ activity between instance cooldowns or while waiting for groups
- Build your Fishing Codex โ Each new species discovered builds Codex progress and skill rewards
- This is a legitimate profession โ Unlike sweating (which has a ceiling), fishing and cooking scale with skill investment and can become a primary income source
